On the eve of the release date in July, we left practical work with F1 22 and interviewed the game’s senior creative director who revealed new details about this year’s F1 title.
There is a lot of new information to digest. So with that in mind, here are five new features in F1 22 that you may have missed.
When he was F1 22 announced last monthone of the most polarizing new features was F1 Life. This new mode allows you to live the lifestyle of a wealthy F1 driver, personalize your hub and showcase your collection of supercars, trophies and clothing.
While F1 Life was supposed to be a stand-alone mode of operation, we now know that it will also serve as an online multi-player lobby. This means that you can show your achievements to friends online and visit the hubs of other players.
When it comes to customization, you can equip your driver with clothes from renowned luxury brands and customize your center with wall paintings, furniture and floors. F1 Life is like a cross between F1, The Sims and PlayStation Home.
Not only can you show supercars in F1 Life, but you can also drive them for the first time in an F1 match. However, you will not be able to race with them.
Instead, F1 22 supercars are limited to chronometer and challenges, from checkpoint events to Autocross and Drift challenges.
Codemasters ’decision to introduce supercars to the F1 series of games was inspired by F1’s actual Pirelli Hot Laps program, in which F1 drivers take celebrities and journalists to the track in supercars as quickly as possible.
Still, don’t expect to drive a Lamborghini. The F1 22 will only feature F1 team supercars including Ferrari, Mercedes-AMG, McLaren and Aston Martin.
As seen in the Miami Grand Prix trailer, the McLaren 720S is the only confirmed supercar in the F1 22, but a complete list of supercars reportedly leaked to the internet.
One of the most sought after features in the F1 series of games is crossplay multiplayer. This allows players to race against each other on multiple platforms to keep multi-player lobbies active.
While this long-sought-after feature will not be available at launch, senior creative director Lee Mather confirmed in interview with RacingGames that crossplay comes in F1 22 in an update after publication.
As for why crossplay is not in F1 22 at launch, the team working on this feature is located in Ukraine. Understandably, crossplay in F1 22 has been delayed until launch to ensure the safety and well-being of the Ukrainian team.
Under the new regulations, the new cars in the F1 22 are noticeably heavier, which makes them more challenging to drive. Despite this, the F1 22 will still be available to new players.
To help new players learn new driving physics and stay competitive, Codemasters has implemented a new Adaptive AI system. Designed for novice drivers with less experience with F1 games, Adaptive AI dynamically adjusts the speed of the AI driver, keeping races close and exciting.
As in previous F1 games, more experienced players can also fine-tune AI difficulty from 25 up to 110.
Change the way you work and My team
Instead of live media interviews after the race, you will receive questions through the press office. Your responses will continue to affect team morale, performance, and even sponsor behavior.
My team is also rebuilding in F1 22, with three new entry levels: Newcomer, Midfield Challenger and Title Contender. These settings change the finances and the facilities you start with.
