Boubacar Kamara shows why United should consider a free summer transfer

Boubacar Kamara is available as a free transfer this summer and the 22-year-old continues to show why Manchester United should consider moving.

Last summer we listed Kamara on our list of defensive midfielders that the club should consider. Report in The Athletic in January he then claimed that Manchester United were following him.

As his contract in Marseille ticked, Kamara was offered to United at the end of the transfer window, Fabrizio Romano reported, but United remained adamant not to sign anyonerather waiting for summer.

Boubacar Kamara is available for free

Given that Boubacar Kamara is available for free, albeit with a registration fee, agency fees and salary claims, etc., it could turn out that he was waiting for him if United wins the race this summer.

The surprise star of your club this season

However, it is unclear whether Kamara is high on the United list. Report in Post this week he claimed Aston Villa had recently inquired as they tried to beat the bigger clubs on his signature.

Kamara continues to play a prominent role for Marseille, on the losing side in last week’s European Conference League final against Feyenoord. This was a match in which he had to replace the central defender. He returned in great style for the weekend, showing what he can do in the midfield.

Dominant weekend performance

Kamara played 90 minutes while Marseille beat Lorient 3-0, and he was dominant in the midfield. Quite the opposite of Manchester United’s appearance in Brighton on Saturday night.

Helping his team keep a clean sheet in the away win, Kamara touched the ball 89 times and made 72 of 77 passes (94%).

He also won nine of the nine duels on the ground, which is a significant statistic over the weekend Scott McTominay won zero of the nine contestants in United’s defeat by Brighton.

Kamara also won in three of four clashes, made one interception, two outings, received four fouls and five rebounds. It was an effective defensive display of an upcoming defensive midfielder.

Kamara is in the top 10 of this season in Ligue 1 by entering the final third and total touches, showing quality of possession as well as perseverance outside the ball.

The young man’s contract may expire, but he is obviously determined to give it all this season, until the end. Whether it’s a team, or because of her own goals to secure a move, Kamara finds a way to motivate herself and that should be commended.

Gambling makes too much sense

Signing with Kamara for a free transfer makes too much sense for Manchester United. That’s why it probably won’t happen.

If United move forward and sign Aurelien Tchouameni, Calvin Phillips, Edson Alvarez, Joao Palhinha, or any other defensive midfielder, would cost a lot more. Maybe they’re better. But United could also add Kamara in a free transfer and double.

This is in a position where United was already light before Nemanja Matic decided to leave. Having two defensive midfielders may seem greedy, but it’s actually prudent, considering the injuries and not wanting to replay option number one.

A move for Kamara would be tricky. He is a top young talent, who has 22 years ahead of him. This is the transfer that the smart club will make this summer. We’ll see if United are smart.

Dan is still wondering what would have happened if United had kept Juan Verona …
