So you leave the tires on the trip to see a Formula 1 race.
You may want to take a look at the inaugural F1 Miami Grand Prix. Or how about filling out that item on the list and looking at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Here’s a not-so-small secret about Formula One weekend. It can be a little expensive.
Make it very expensive.
People on vegasinsider.com did the job and split the price of a three-day weekend ticket race at the grandstand for one, the average and middle price for two nights at a hotel in the city of the race, and six “cheap” meals to get through three days.
The methodology was simple enough. Formula 1 and the track website were used to find the cheapest seats in the stands for the three-day weekend race. Booking.com was the source of hotel rooms in the host cities (AirBnb used for races in Silverstone, Monaco and France).
Not a real surprise, the most expensive ticket for the race is in Monaco, where a three-day ticket for a seat in the stands will cost you $ 700. Second on the list of 23 host places with the most expensive tickets for 2022 is Miami, where three days in the stands for the inaugural race in South Florida start at $ 640.
The cheapest tickets are in Hungary, where three days at the tribune at the Hungaroring cost $ 127. F1 tickets for grandstands in Bahrain, Australia, Azerbaijan and Brazil cost less than $ 200.
The cheapest three-day tickets for the Circuit of the Americas are listed in the survey for $ 235, but are currently listed as “sold out” and without the original price on the COTA website. Tickets on the secondary markets are available, but expect to pay a lot more than that. An Autoweek check out the cheapest tickets just for sunday at the Austin race grandstand that started in 675 USD on StubHub from March 24th.
Many seats offer general tickets separated from the seats in the stands at a reduced price.
Hotels are a different story.
Two nights at a hotel on a race weekend near Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi take the top prize with the median price of a two-day stay at the hotel during the race weekend from Nov. 18-20, registration at a staggering $ 2,108 per night, according to vegas.com. But stay calm, that doesn’t mean you can’t find a room for two nights under $ 1,000. Autoweek found plenty of free rooms with prices below $ 1,000 via booking.com March 24th.
Looking for cheap rooms for F1 race weekends? Try Sao Paulo, Brazil. You will be surprised. Okay, maybe even shocked.
Research has shown that the cheapest of what is called “cheap meals” can be found in Japan, Azerbaijan and Bahrain. Expect to dig deep even for a quick meal in Monaco. Six cheap meals for one in Baku, Azerbaijan, would cost you less than $ 30. Monaco on a race weekend? Closer to $ 300.
It’s a fun and sometimes sobering exercise to dream of doing that world tour one year.
Shop around. We found many hotel rooms, for example, cheaper than the average prices in the survey. Tickets, on the other hand, are almost impossible to find at face value in many places, and inflated prices in secondary markets are often the only option.
Oh yes, and we forgot about air travel. That’s extra.
