Leeds United vs. Chelsea, Premier League: Overview, team news, how to watch

A few weeks ago, this game looked a little more than a subsequent thought in the calendar; now it is very important, for both teams.

Chelsea was comfortably third and Leeds United was seemingly safe from relegation. We are now just a point ahead of Arsenal, who play against the Spurs tomorrow, and Leeds are back in the relegation zone thanks to Burnley and Evertonrevival – the latter in part thanks to our ridiculous defeat at Goodison Park.

Yet things in football often change quickly.

“It simply came to our notice then [that Saturday’s FA Cup final is bigger]? It’s true? All right… I don’t know. ”

“The biggest game is always the next game.”

Leeds United News: Appointed in late February, coach Jesse Marsch has won 3 of his 9 games at the helm, making up a third of their overall wins and points of the season. It’s by no means a form that burns the barn, and two of the three wins came against two teams from below, but Leeds certainly seems a harder proposition now than before – and we barely managed to win last time against them!

Still, he will be left without one of his greatest leaders in Stuart Dallas, who recently underwent knee surgery. Deputy captain Luke Ayling is also out after the suspension against Arsenal for the weekend. Captain Liam Cooper should return after a minor knee problem though. Adam Forshaw, Tyler Roberts and former Chelsea player Patrick Bamford remain off the field with various injuries.

In the absence of the latter, Dan James or young Joe Gelhardt, who scored his first goal for the club against Chelsea in December, were ahead for them – although Raphinha, of course, remains their main dangerous man, and he would surely become a tempting transfer target if Leeds it eventually turns out.

Chelsea team news: N’Golo Kanté, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chilwell remain outside. Jorginho is back in training, but he may not be ready to start.

Tuchel changed his strikers on Saturday, giving long overdue starts to both Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulišić, and both of them owed their faith (even if we managed to give up the two-goal advantage then). But with the FA Cup final looming on Saturday, extra attention could be paid to the condition of the players – especially amid tired legs and tired minds: this will be our 60th match of the season!

Saturday’s draw, the last in a strange and disappointing series of results that led us to just five points from five games, led to some tabloid noise about the riots at the training ground, but Tuchel claims we talked and hugged on Sunday in extraordinary training, and that there are also no rumors of “breaking up” Marcos Alonso.

We believe in Tuchel.

Previously: Dramatic victory of the Blues on the bridge with the result 3-2; Jorginho scored twice from the spot, including the winner in the final minutes. We are unbeaten seven in a row against Leeds (five wins), and the last defeat was in 2002.
