Blurb: Despite Kane Williamson’s miserable race at the top of the standings, Moody defended the move to keep Markram and Tripathi in 3rd and 4th place, respectively, where they excelled

Kane Williamson’s futile race in the IPL 2022 continues. Against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday (May 14), Sunrisers captain Hyderabad scored 9 of 17 balls in opening the shot and his inability to quickly get off the blocks in 178 run-chase brought SRH their fifth defeat in the jump.

SRHs have reached the lowest limits within PowerPlay this season and that dry period has continued. Against KKR in Pune, they hit only four borders in the first six overs, three of which came from the baton of Abhishek Sharma.

With Williamson going through one of its worst seasons, SRH has other options for partnering with Sharma at the top – Aiden Markram and especially Rahul Tripathi, an experienced IPL rookie – but the franchise has continued to support Williamson. Head coach Tom Moody said they are reluctant to change things that worked, a la the middle order, to correct what is not.

“Well, Rahul Tripathi beat extremely well at three, and Markram was one of the leading hitters in the tournament at four, so we figured out why change something that works for something that doesn’t work. We always supported and trusted Kane,” he said. is Moody after the 54-year defeat of SRH. “There is no doubt about his world-class quality, so we did not make that move. Because, as we saw during the tournament, there are a few areas of our hitting that worked really well. It is Abhishek Sharma at the top of the rankings, Tripathi at three, Markram at four and Pooran at five. ”

Moody also said the team lost “a bit of confidence” in the middle of the season due to injuries to Washington Sundar and T Natarajan, two prone with very specific roles in the flank, and that she could never recover from that.

“I think we won well. We started playing good cricket, we had everything available for the selection. Then we missed the game we had to win to be six in a row. And then we had injuries to both Washington and Natarajan … and they have pretty key roles for us on the side, and here I think we lost a little confidence as a bowling unit and a little bit of rhythm in our game and method in our defense over 120 balls.Since then we have struggled to really regain that rhythm.

Moody also explained why Washington Sundar hit the last inning, which lasted 20 rounds while Andre Russell took out three sixes and finished with 28 49 * balls.

“Obviously it wasn’t planned in advance at all. We planned to bowling Washington probably before the 16th overture, but the time when Andre Russell came to an end and exactly the way the overshoots went, we thought it was a higher priority to try to remove Russell, take his gate and then return Washington to attack.

But we never removed it, so it always ended up we had to push it in the back. You know, I mean, whether it was Washington or any bowler, you know, it’s not the first time you’ve been hit for 20 since the last match with Andre Russell on the fold. So don’t attribute that to the bowler’s fault. It’s just one of those circumstances where we tactically tried to knock Russell out and so we could (had to) redirect our bowling for the last few overs. ”

“I thought it was a lot better with the ball today. Apart from the obvious backend, there were a few who escaped, but when you have a world-class striker like Russell who has set the fold, he will always be a threat. He did it from So in general, I thought that any sum around that 170 mark was a pretty good performance in bowling. ”
