Pro Kabaddi League 2021-22: Gujarat Giants beat Tamil Thalaivas in a last-minute thriller

Gujarat coach Manpreet Singh showed a lot of courage despite falling behind by 6 points in the final minutes and secured an incredible comeback victory. Their captain Sunil Kumar scored a high 5 while striker Mahendra Rajput picked up 9 points, including one from the last attack of the match.

Gujarat started the game positively and their strikers Rakesh S and Rakesh Narwal looked good. They helped the team open a 5-point lead in the first few minutes as the Tamil defenders tried to find their usual rhythm. But just as the Giants felt ALL OUT, Tamil striker Ajinkya Pawar produced a stunning Super Tackle to temporarily change the balance of the game.

Thalaivas took the lead, but the Gujarat defense, led by its peaceful coverage of Parvesh Bhainswal and Sunil Kumar, ensured that momentum remained. Raid Mahendre Rajputa with 2 points in one move destroyed Thalaivas Sagar and Surjeet Singh and this helped Gujarat to win ALL OUT with less than 3 minutes left until halftime. The teams changed sides with a score of 17-14 in favor of Gujarat.

The opening minutes of the second half were played with high intensity, and both teams looked clinical. Thalaivas ’Ajinkya Pawar rushed to 9 attacking points in the first 10 minutes while the trio of Rakesh, Rakesh Narwal and Mahendra Rajput found faults in the Tamil defense.

Thalaivas remained at a touching distance from the Giants with their striker Manjeet leading. Coach Uday Kumar wanted his Tamil team to inflict EVERYTHING in the final minutes to give Gujarat and take the lead. His team achieved just that with the amazing attack of Sagar and the attack of 2 points by Maneet.

Thalaivas took the lead with 3 points along with ALL OUT with 4 minutes left while Manjeet and Ajinkya Pawar won the Super 10. The Giants were back in the game when substitute Pradeep Kumar scored an astonishing Super Raid with 3 points in just a minute to go. Gujarat got ALL OUT for a 1-point lead, but Mohit equalized again with a run at Mahendra Rajput. But Sunil’s stunning clash at Maneet followed by Mahendra Rajput’s successful attack brought the Giants a crucial victory.
