The Argentine men’s hockey team arrives in India

Argentine male hockey the team landed in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Saturday (March 13th) to face host India in two games, as part of the FIH Pro League, at the cult Kalinga hockey stadium.

Earlier, FIH Pro League matches between India and Germany were canceled due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases at the German camp. The matches were to take place on March 12 and 13.

The Indian national hockey team had mixed results in the current FIH Pro League with 4 wins and 2 losses from 6 games.

Speaking ahead of the match against India, Argentina head coach Mariano Ronconi said:

“It’s always a great pleasure to play here at the cult Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. It’s also always a very good challenge to play against a team like India. We hope to perform well in the next two matches.”

Argentina won one of its two games against Belgium in the FIH Pro League 2021/22 in February, and continued its winning streak in both matches against England.

Speaking about the team’s readiness ahead of the clash against India, coach Ronconi added:

“We had a couple of months of training together. The team was very good and everyone in the team is always willing to play. We have played well so far in the FIH Pro League 2021/22. Of course, there are always things to work on and improve. Our main the goal is to build a new and competitive team, and we are moving in the right direction. “

Ronconi also praised the Indian players for their speed, skill and perseverance. He added:

India has been strong in the last few years. They have also achieved some good results in every tournament they have played in. India has fast and very agile players and they are also very strong in penalty corners. We expect to play our own game, and let’s continue to grow as a team.Let’s hope we incorporate the defense and offensive system well and score points.
