F1 22 rushes off the line in less than two months, opening a new era for F1 games influenced by EA. Regulatory changes in the actual 2022 season mean cars will be noticeably heavier and more challenging to drive.
Not only can you drive supercars in F1 22but you can also sit behind the wheel of official F1 Safety cars for 2022.
Drive Safety Cars in F1 22
Speaking during the F1 22 review, senior creative director Lee Mather confirmed that the F1 22 will allow you to drive Safety Cars for the first time in the series.
Specifically, it means you can take the official safety cars of the 2022 Aston Martin Vantage series and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series for off-road driving.
Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering increased power of 527 hp, the Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car debuted in the F1 2021 season. It also inspired the Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition, which you can also drive in the F1 22.
Replacing the AMG GT R safety car, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Safety Car debuted this year. With a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine producing 730 hp, it’s the most powerful F1 safety car Mercedes has ever had.
Don’t expect to drive safety cars in race scenarios. Instead, F1 22 Safety Cars will be limited to the stopwatch. Nonetheless, the Safety Cars driving option in the F1 game will be fun news when you want to take a break from racing.
We are interested in how F1 22 road cars behave unlike F1 cars and whether Codemasters implements a realistic or arcade driving model.
According to Codemasters, F1 22 Safety Cars will be “deluxe bonus items”. Although Codemasters has not clarified what this means, we expect Safety Cars to be pre-order bonuses included in the deluxe Champions Edition.
However, we also expect Safety Cars to be available with PitCoins for players who do not own the Champions Edition.
F1 2022, however, is not the first officially licensed motorsport game that allows you to drive Safety Cars – who remembers driving a BMW M4 Safety Car in a Moto GP 14?
Based on the actual Pirelli Hot Laps program, the F1 22 also allows you to break the track in the supercars of F1 team makers including Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG.
While you can’t compete with them, unlocked supercars can be used while driving on a stopwatch, as well as in Checkpoint, Drift and Autocross challenges. You can also show off your collection of supercars F1 Life.
