Hockey India has released a list of 60 players, which will be reduced to 33 for the national camp at a later stage. Players are selected based on their appearances in recently completed major tournaments. These include the Men’s National Championship, the Junior Men’s National Championship and other Indian Hockey approved domestic competitions.

The list includes retained players from both the junior and senior men’s core groups.

The list of 60 members will be further reduced to 33 players ahead of their preparations for the 2022 FIH Pro League matches.


Strong strength on the bench is vital in a challenging year for Indian hockey

Graham Reid, head coach of the Indian men’s hockey team, said it was important for players to start from scratch in the new Olympic cycle.

“These 60 players have earned their place based on their recent appearances in the international and domestic rounds. For those selected from the previous 33 likely major men’s senior groups, it will be very important for them to maintain their level to ensure they are selected in the final a list of 33, ”Reid said.

He added:

“We’re already in the new Olympic cycle now, so it’s all starting from scratch. It’s really important to go ahead and start over.”

The head coach said a strong group of players is vital given the hectic hockey season ahead of us. The schedule includes the FIH Pro League, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.

“Given that we have the FIH Pro League, the Asian Games and various other top tournaments ahead of us, it will be very crucial for us to have a strong group of 33 players as we prepare for the challenging 2022 season,” Reid added.
