“We had a few days to get together as a group, talk within a group, some truth had to be told and we got that out of our system,” Mason Mount told Sky Sports after Chelsea beat Leeds United 3-0 on Elland Road . Whatever was said in the locker room, or on the training ground, obviously worked.
Chelsea returned to something close to their brilliant best result against Leeds – and the timing could no longer be perfect. The Blues travel briefly to Wembley on Saturday afternoon to play against Liverpool in the FA Cup final, and a win on Wednesday night will give the team much-needed confidence ahead of the showdown.
Many people thought Chelsea would have one eye, or maybe more, at the end of their trip to Elland Road. However, that was definitely not the case.
The Blues took the lead after just four minutes in Yorkshire with a beautiful goal from Mount. The England international then became a supplier in the second half, with Leeds losing after Daniel James ’horror challenge against Mate Kovačić, raising Christian Pulisic to 2-0. Romelu Lukaku then scored his third goal in two matches in the last 10 minutes and thus scored three points for Chelsea.

Lukaku’s message to the TV camera
Lukaku scored his 15th goal in all competitions for Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Belgian was again invited to the starting XI for the weekend and took his chance with a rapid-fire double against the Wolves.
The 28-year-old, who has been heavily criticized since rejoining Chelsea last summer, is finally returning to the form he showed after returning to Stamford Bridge. His the overall performance against Leeds was outstanding. He looked hungry and determined to score.
It took time to arrive, but he finally found the back of the net on Elland Road – and he looked thrilled when he did. Lukaku has now made a big claim that Saturday’s FA Cup grand final will start with Liverpool.
After the goal against Leeds, Lukaku went to the Sky Sports TV camera and had a clear message. It seemed as if, although this could not be confirmed, he said two words: “I’m back!”. Yes you are, Romelu.
Tuchel screams at Chalob
Trevoh Chalobah returned to the Chelsea side on Elland Road. The 22-year-old defender has not played for the Blues senior team since winning against West Ham United last month – with a lot of fans want to see him back in the lineup.
At Leeds they made their wish come true and Chalobah did not disappoint. The defender looked collected on the right side of the defense, and he barely made a mistake all night. Although that was not the case in Tuchel’s head.
After breaking up with Rodrigo near the sideline, Chalobah committed a cheap foul after some thought by referee Anthony Taylor. When Taylor blew the whistle, Tuchel shouted angrily at Chalobah, indicating that the defensive position was wrong in the upgrade.
“Today we informed the team very late who is playing. Maybe he didn’t expect that,” Tuchel said when Chalobah returned to the side after the game. “The same was against West Ham where he entered in the short term.
“He has provided in both matches. This is a level he can achieve and it’s about consistency. He’s been a little lacking in recent weeks and we’ve made some other choices which is normal. He has to stay modest, diligent and can be a big part of that.”
Mount sets a Chelsea record
Mount was really great against Leeds. The Chelsea star continues to flourish this season and it was one of his strongest appearances this term when the Blues needed him the most.
His goal was great. After some clever play with Reece James, Mount scored the ball in the top corner, leaving Illan Meslier with absolutely no chance in Leeds ’goal.
Mount didn’t score again, but he certainly continued to play his part. A delicate little shot left Pulišić all the space in the world and the American scored the ball in the bottom corner.
That Mount assist means he is the youngest Chelsea player ever to have double-digit goals and assists in the same Premier League season. At the age of 23, Mount breaks the record of Juan Mate, who did it when he was 25 years old.
