‘When Dhoni took off the leash, Jadeja could not set up the field in a situation of pressure’ | Cricket

From MS Dhoni to Ravindra Jadeja and then back to Dhoni again. Quite unexpectedly, the Chennai Super Kings captaincy experienced too frequent and too rapid a change of ownership. Dhoni decided to hand over the CSK captaincy to Jadeja a few days before the start of IPL 2022. The legendary former Indian skipper said Jadeja has been in the loop since last year. However, when CSK were on the verge of relegation in the tournament, Jadeja decided to return the captain’s armband to Dhoni for half the season. CSK immediately saw a change of fortunes as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad and stayed in the playoffs. Reacting to Dhoni-Jade’s captain’s juggling, former Australian spinner Brad Hogg expressed concern about CSK’s future leadership.

Hogg said Jadeja struggled when Dhoni decided to leave him alone.

“CSK and Jadeja thought the transition would go smoothly where Jadeja would take the help of MS Dhoni. But when the time came for Dhoni to take off the leash and leave Jade alone, the pressure began to rise. Decision-making began to stray and he could not help his bowlers. I couldn’t set the right field in that pressure situation, “Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

“Now we have learned that Jadeja is not right for the role, but he is a leader in himself. When he is relaxed, he plays well, he gives that energy. He gives team spirit. Sometimes you lead in different ways. So MS Dhoni had to take on the role.

“Now that MS Dhoni has taken on a role that will be a replacement for MS Dhoni at the end of this year if he doesn’t change his mind and play further?” he asked.

The former left-handed player who last played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL said he sees no one else capable of leading CSK if Dhoni decides to move on.

“I can’t see a player on CSK’s roster who can effectively and efficiently lead this team. They will have to go to auction next year to find a captain’s ability player and try to find an Indian to do the job will be difficult as all the best Indian T20s players already deployed to other franchises, ”Hogg added.

Hogg also felt that CSK might have to go to auction to find material for the captaincy and in all likelihood it will be an overseas player as most other top Indian players already have other franchises.

“He will have to go to an international player. It will be difficult to find a player who will fit into the balance and game plan that CSK already has. CSK management should have thought about when he entered this auction, “Hogg added.

CSK are currently No. 9 on the table with ten teams and must win all their remaining matches in order to have a chance to qualify for the playoffs. They fight Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.
