WTA Rome Day 3 Predictions

A great week of tennis in Rome continues on Wednesday, and several big names on the women’s tour are in action. There are a few more world power plants left at the Earth Games, such as Simone Halep and Iga Swiatek among the favorites to win the title this week. Can a new face stop an old guard? Will Swiatek be five for five? All of these questions will be answered as the week progresses. However, for now, we draw attention to the action on Wednesday in this series of predictions for the 3rd day of the WTA in Rome.

WTA Rome Day 3 Predictions

Belinda Benčić against Amanda Anisimova

Mutual meetings: 1 – 1

Both Belinda Benčić and Amanda Anisimova used good starting swings on the ground to get a real boat after rocky periods in the last 12-24 months. Benčić is a former top ten player and WTA finalist who would probably have become a serious candidate for the Grand Slams on tour had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic and injuries in recent months. And Anisimova had problems off the field that derailed her rapid rise in the women’s game. However, they are both currently playing very good tennis and this should be a great match to watch. Benčić holds a slight advantage here because her game is more consistent, and her backhand is a serious weapon. Anisimova has a very high ceiling if she shoots at all cylinders, but that doesn’t happen often enough for me to pick her against a Swiss opponent.

Forecast: Benčić in 3

Karolina Pliškova v. Jil Teichmann

Head to head matches: 1 – 0 Teichmann

Karolina Pliškova used a strong ending until 2021 silent worries that she had passed her climax and no longer an elite player on the women’s tour. However, concerns remain about her movements and she looks worryingly vulnerable in matches where she does not get regular balls in her hit zone. Her huge service is often enough for her to get around this problem, but that may not be enough here. Teichmann enjoyed a career year last year when it comes to big tournaments. She also seems to have found that shape again in recent weeks. She easily knocked out Jasmine Paolini in her last match and if she maintains that level, she will probably drive Pliškova off the field here. If Cech serves well, he goes on, but I think Teichmann wins anyway,

Garbine Muguruza against Julia Putin

Mutual matches: 2 – 1 Muguruza

This is interesting and difficult to call. Garbine Muguruza is clearly a better player than the two of them. She is fresh from a Win the WTA final at the end of 2021 and seems to have found consistency to saw her win two Grand Slams earlier in his career. However, she did not play much tennis this year and had several problems. When that is the case, there may be no worse opponent to face on the WTA Tour than Julia Putin. The diminutive Kazakhstani is a persistent fighter and a ruthless competitor who is not afraid to fall into your face when she is on top and plays well. And she is in good shape, which makes this even more difficult for the Spaniard.

If Muguruza finds his feet in return early in this match, it should be fine because Putin’s serve is a weakness. But if she fails to break through there, she could find herself in several long rallies. That doesn’t leave me confident in her chances here given the lack of tennis this year.

Forecast: Putintseva in 3

Simona Halep v. Danielle Collins

Mutual meetings: 1 – 1

What a treat this is. The main event of this gathering Predictions for the 3rd day of the WTA in Rome see current champion Simona Halep fight hot Danielle Collins in a match to be seen. Halep has missed most of the year so far due to problems with Achilles. However, now he looks close to his best again. Her partnership with Patrick Mouratoglou he seems to be paying dividends early and looks like a real threat here. She is also a favorite to win the French Open, but this is her second time. Here he faces a tough test at Collins.

The American has played the best tennis of her life in the last twelve months. She won two major titles in late 2021 and made it to the Australian Open final in January. She hasn’t played much since, and the country isn’t her best base. Still, you are counting on Collins at your own risk and you can be sure he will fight here. Still, in the end, I think Halep looks good and is a superior player on the ground. You should win here.

Forecast: Halep at 3
